Movie Monday: To Catch a Thief
After a long sabbatical, I decided to blog something. Fancy that!
I finished watching To Catch a Thief with my family last night. The kids have never seen it, and it was the girls’ first Hitchcock movie. I kept lobbying for it, and finally I insisted. I’m glad I did.
Cary Grant plays John Robie, a former jewel thief, living a quiet life in the countryside. Well, at least until jewels start disappearing in burglaries committed in his signature style. He soon realizes the only way to prove his innocence is to catch the actual thief. John Williams plays a charmingly hilarious agent for Lloyd’s of London who decides to help Robie by giving him a list of his most bejeweled clients. Of course he somehow crosses paths with Grace Kelly. I used the princess hook to get the girls interested.
I had seen this film once or twice and had a ho-hum response. This time around I saw it for the lovely film it is. Parents may want to discuss the following themes/issues:
- Can criminals change/reform?
- General discussion of the French Riviera, its geography, etc.
- Discussion of the French Resistance
- Appearances may not match what’s inside.
