Featured Post: How to turn homework in on time (hopefully)
I know we are not the first parents to struggle with this, nor are we the last. God blessed us with a great son. I could spend a long time listing his great traits here, but I want you to make it to the end of this post. Let’s just say my wife and I are both pleased with how he’s turning out. One challenge we have is homework. … Read entire article »

25 Random things
There’s this “25 Random Things” deal going around on Facebook, so I finally bit and took a crack at it. I thought I would publish it here for posterity’s sake. The one thing I didn’t mention was how much I love Milwaukee. Feel free to comment. … Read entire article »

Then and Now
Yesterday was the 20th Anniversary of the first date I had with this girl named Nicole, who became my wife. While not the event of an anniversary, this was definitely cause for celebration. We went to see Quantum of Solace, the latest installation in the 007 Series. Along the way we grabbed a quick meal and bought Nicole some sunglasses. (How 1980s of us to hang at the mall.) We almost toilet-papered our friends’ house (we got caught trying to TP his parents house on that fateful day) but decided against it. I thought a then/now was in order, so here goes: … Read entire article »

Web Wednesday: Nuclearity.org
I listen to the FamilyLife Today podcast with great regularity. At the end of a few, there was this blurb about Nuclearity. Quoting from their “About Us” page: … Read entire article »

Five Star Thursdays: Neko Case sings a Tom Waits tune
I am very conflicted about this week’s choice. I have a link on my blog to Christian Internet Links and am a Christian. Yet here I am about to discuss a song called “Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis” as my song of the week. I was thinking of Neko Case this evening, and I chose this song whilst alone and chilling out. When I wanted to use this song for the blog, I immediately thought that it would be inappropriate. So I nixed the idea. Then the writer in me knew that to be anything but real would be wrong. So here we go… I own a lot of depressing and dark music, and this may be is the saddest song of them all. The main character in this song … Read entire article »

Famous Lutherans
I need to give props to my friend Paul Streufert (a fellow Lutheran) for sending this video to me. Lost and Found is an acoustic band that is best described as a cross between They Might be Giants and the Violent Femmes. This song is about famous Lutherans, and if you are one (like me) you will relate. If you aren’t, we are always looking for a few more, so ask me how to join. We’d love to have you on our team! … Read entire article »

Another day, another number
I turned 37 yesterday. I’m not sure what that is supposed to mean. Am I wiser? Perhaps. Do I look older? Probably. I used to make a big deal of my birthday, but that went out long ago. The kids think it’s pretty cool. I’m blessed to have a good family and great friends. What more can I say? For the record, I spent my birthday at church, cleaning, entertaining and grilling. I got to use my new bar, and our home was filled with beloved guests. Then I woke up this morning, and it was just another day. We’ll see what my 38th year on earth brings. … Read entire article »
