Web Wednesday: SparkPeople
Many people battle with weight, and I am but one of them. The reading on our bathroom scale has crept up sixty pounds (ouch) from 2005. Much of that is because my exercise regimen has steadily decreased – it’s getting harder to work out as the kids get older. Our primary care physician pointed us to sparkpeople.com – a great site that helps you track calories and exercise FOR FREE. They even have a cool app for the iPhone. Forget the Weight Watchers paid service, and try this instead. Now all I need to do is actually use the stinking thing. … Read entire article »

First Practice Notes
Our first practice went extremely well. After loosening up the kids’ arms, we discussed philosophy and expectations. The kids were cold, which didn’t last for long as we worked on running to first base in a straight line, and then rounding first and heading to second. The key was having the boys get used to running OFF of their heels and on the balls of their feet. No ball in play is a sure out, and there are no home runs that allow us to trot around the bases, so running is important. … Read entire article »

Opening Day x 2
Many of the people in this fair city I call home (Milwaukee) are excited for the start of the baseball season. After a long winter, baseball is back. I however am doubly excited, because today is the beginning of two baseball seasons for me. For the Milwaukee Brewers, the first pitch in San Francisco is less than an hour away. I’ll enjoy the Brewers run this season, and hopefully we’ll enter September with a chance to go to the postseason. Nearer and dearer to my heart … Read entire article »

Movie Monday: Topper
I’m going to try and discuss a movie every Monday here in my new home. We’ll see how that goes. The first entry is Topper, a whimsical comedy with Cary Grant. I had it on the DVR and it took a while to watch it because we had to do so with the kids in bed. (The description mentioned “liberate a man from his stuffy wife,” and I didn’t want to expose Jackson to a potential anti-marriage movie at this age.) The plot is simple and at times predictable, but I will maintain that it’s better than most comedies that roll out these days. … Read entire article »

Five-Star Friday: “(The) Sugar”
I do realize that making this song a blog entry may open me up to ridicule. So be it. … Read entire article »

Getting a list of your SharePoint Users
I had a client request a way to get all of the users out of SharePoint. A little research showed the command switch in STSADM. Jose’s Site is on my bookmark list. Here’s what it looks like: stsadm –o enumusers –url http://moss2007.domain.com … Read entire article »

Social Networking, old friends, politics, and the bad idea of limiting deductions
I’ve been on Facebook for quite some time now. What makes Facebook compelling to me is that so many people from my current and past are on it: colleagues, friends, family, old classmates, youth group members, and the like. It’s great to connect with people and find how your interests are the same. I like seeing photos of people I haven’t seen for years. I’ve learned things about people I would never know otherwise (Person A went to Morehouse, Person B’s husband started a new ministry, etc.) In fact, there is even a little Kumbaya feeling to it that only social networking can lend. My “friends” don’t have to live with me, work with me, or put up with my bad habits. They don’t have to be Duke Fans who like … Read entire article »
